Laurant Stemkens from a Dutch village near the German border roams the nearby forests on both sides of the border, armed with a metal detector he uses to scan for material traces of war. In 2022 the young enthusiast found the U.S. military dog tag of soldier Louis Gertzberg that he has lost during a battle of World War II in a forest near the German village of Gangelt. It took him 2 years to find the family of Jewish Louis Hertzberg, who legally changed his name to Lionel Gay, and to return the dog tag to Boston. A story about history, antisemitism and human connection.
